There are two things I collect fashion-wise. Bathing suits, and sunglasses. I don’t mind paying extra for either, since I pull my collections out every summer and relish picking out which will be the stars for that season. I have no problem changing suits four times a day, which is hilarious since I am super low maintenance when it comes to my day-to-day wardrobe.
All bets are off at the beach though. I often style myself with head scarves, sunnies, layers of necklaces or big earrings. A peachy cream blush, or golden bronzer adorn my face, or I go straight for a cream to powder summer shadow like this one from YSL. Once you put this stuff on, it stays for the day. The color I prefer when wearing most of my neutral suits is a lovely green called “Golden Fern”. (“Copper Brown” shown in the picture, is also nice.)
And for nails, who doesn’t love a fun color for the summer?
I digress….Back to suits and sunnies. So as summer rolls into full swing, I am dreaming about an invite or two to the beach. I think about what kind of bikini feels right, right now? As I look around at all of the swimwear offerings, I discover the talented swimwear designer Tara Matthews. I instantly know that it is time for me to channel a Bond girl in this gorgeous pink number, (which also comes with an extra set of ties in orange if you feel like swapping out.)
Be sure to check out Tara’s website, as she has loads of amazing suits, dresses, and cover-ups to swoon over. This suit also comes in a icy mint green, which would look great with a (self) tan.
I would really like a few tidbits to keep me warm and stylish. Please go shopping right away and don’t delay. For you, I promise to set out large amounts of cookies, and some hay for the reindeers of course.

This Markus Lupfer lips sweater is oh so glam.
And this Stella McCartney snake print hat is not your average beenie:
Did I mention that I think this aviator jacket by Vince is pretty cool too?
Oh yeah, and a YSL scarf would last a lifetime. (Although of course it’s not to be worn with the Stella hat, as I might be arrested for too much animal print)
NY Fashion Week has been in full force, and I wanted to take the time to talk about my favorite shows so far. I know Spring 2011 seems far away, but it is exciting to think about what you might want to wear as the first green shoots are reaching for the sun.
First up is Alexander Wang. Spring is my favorite time of year, and I love to see the more organic fabrics and fresh color palettes that he has focused on this time around. Normally he is the king of black, but this season he took a more spiritual, new age approach and sent his girls down the runway in flowy coveralls with criss cross backs and canvas jackets, and a sea of white white white, with some seafoam and terra cotta as well. He also explored some small doodle-like prints which were interesting, and used metallic foil so it looked like duct tape slashed across a dress or pants.
Ah Derek Lam…this season he did a California cool girl, relaxed and confident. He added a touch of 70′s, but not so much as to make the collection look retro. He also used some chambray denim, which seems to be all over the runways for spring. I am crazy for his wooden wedges, and am hoping to snag a pair come springtime, even if I have to beat every other devotee over the head with a shoe box at Barneys.
Marc Jacobs left the 50′s and 60′s behind and went straight for the 70′s for spring 2011. His models were awash in gorgeous plums, oranges, mustards, and pinks. The halter dresses, frizzy hair and giant flowers reminded me of Diane Von Furstenberg, pulling up to Studio 54 looking fabulous and ready to dance the night away. The satin numbers, especially the hot pants, were straight Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver. The colors were beautiful, but I could do without satin shorts or pants for that matter, which is why I am just showing you his dresses. He also paid tribute to YSL (of course), and threw in some Missoni inspired prints as well. All in all, he always makes fashion fun, and it delivered a mash-up of co-existing influences, delicious colors, and some great textures and shapes.
Sexy sand? Yes that seems to be what Donna Karan is into for spring. Desert colors and sexy, flowing silhouettes floated down the runway, making one dream of faraway lands.
Thakoon Panichgul jumped on the refreshing band wagon, and he too sent crisp white down the runway in the form of sporty eyelet. Now sporty and eyelet might not seem to go together, but it worked perfectly and his clothing was fresh, sporty, and sexy. He even made the bits of black he showed light and airy without a bit of drudgery.
Lastly, we have Vena Cava, and I think they did a really great job this season. Their looks were effortless, chic, and I imagined the girl wearing these clothes would be well travelled and fun to sit next to at a dinner party.
Last night I went to a cocktail party/exhibit sponsored by Harper’s Bazaar featuring hot accessory designers. You can’t beat great people watching, mixed with viewing fantastic jewelry, shoes, bags, scarves, and hair accessories. Standouts included Anndra Neen jewelry and Abraxas Rex jewelry, and I am also really excited about Jennifer Behr’s new feather hair accessories for spring. Pieces included peachy feathers dusted with gold, so ethereal and gorgeous!
I am finishing up my fall wish list with a few more important items. Let me know what your big ticket items will be for fall, I’d love to know what you are dreaming about to add to your wardrobe.

Since I love to wear black, I have picked out these YSL platform pumps to add a shock of color to my sometimes colorless wardrobe.
I’m pretty crazy about this Rick Owens alpaca-silk oversized cardigan. It’s soft and very cool looking, just like everything that Rick designs. It’s definitely an investment, but it will be worn for years to come.
It’s nice to have a smaller bag when you don’t need to carry the kitchen sink with you, and this Rebecca Minkoff bag reminds me a little of that covetable Celine bag that is so hot right now.
I took this photo off of the Celine website. Who knows how much this baby costs:
I need this Bottega Veneta scarab ring, it’s so whimsical, and I love bugs (that don’t bite).
I love this 3.1 Phillip Lim cashmere double sleeved sweater. The double sleeves are a nice detail, and there’s nothing like cashmere, right?
Lastly, I have to add these Isabel Marant suede cropped pants. Leather is a big trend for fall, and these pants have that “je ne sais quoi” cool that Isabel Marant always brings to her designs. I know I would wear these every day, like a favorite pair of jeans. I also like the fact that they have some stretch to them.
I hope you enjoyed my foray into fall 2010 clothing, and don’t forget to let me know what you are looking for this fall!
As all of the fall clothing is hitting the stores, I begin dreaming about what I’d like to add to my wardrobe. The dreaming of course includes a credit card where the bills go to someone like Santa Claus in the North Pole. ”Ah” he says as he opens his American Express bill, “I see Chrissy has fallen in love with a YSL dress.”
It’s raging hot out right now, but looking at beautiful new wintery clothes gets me excited for cooler crisp weather, and layering, and walking around New York with the wind breezing down the street. The first thing I plan on doing mid September is hitting all of the Chelsea galleries. On Thursdays, the new shows are up and people flood the streets for the evening openings. Fall is an exciting time in New York, with lots of events and activities to attend.
So I have compiled my fall wish list, I hope it inspires you. Remember, if you don’t want to be left holding an ugly puce-colored sweater dress in a size 0, then now is the time to shop for fall clothing. Click on photos for shopping information:
First up, this GORGEOUS black wool blend YSL dress. It reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffanys”. I love that it is feminine, but it has clean lines, and still appeals to my sportier side. I would wear this with perfect little ballet flats, and a red lip.
Who doesn’t want a perfect pair of Stella McCartney grey pants? These slouchy numbers are tailored but relaxed, I would wear these a million times with a tank and a large cardigan.
You know how much I love stripes, so this Alexander Wang t-shirt is a perfect way for me to segue my summertime love of stripes into fall. This top is made from soft wool jersey so it will keep me warm this winter.
I love this Marni burnished silver horn bead necklace. The texture, the size…it all works for me. I would wear this over a body hugging turtleneck sweater, or over a white t-shirt.
Come back and check out my fall wish list part 2, where I continue on the journey of the perfect items to add to your wardrobe for fall!
Okay I really just have put together an outfit inspired by an ice-cream. Yes I have…Here’s the story:
I attempted to make salted butter caramel ice-cream last weekend for our backyard BBQ, and because our freezer needed a new circuit board, the ice-cream never froze. Imagine my disappointed guests as they all huddled around the (not frozen) ice-cream maker vying for a spoonful of the delicious “soup”. Well a repair guy came by yesterday with a new circuit board and our freezer (and ice-cream maker) are back in business. This ice-cream is not the easiest to make, but it is ‘oh so worth it’. Thank you to the lovely David Lebovitz for letting me vent on his facebook page about my ice-cream mishap. David is the supreme dessert creator who designed this delicious ice-cream recipe. Click here to make his salted butter caramel ice-cream.
Here is my ice-cream inspired outfit. I know, I know, the dress is not the right color, but I couldn’t find a dress in that buttery color that I liked. There was a lovely Herve Leger that would have worked, but it was an ungodly $4,900 and I just couldn’t feature a bandage dress that costs as much as a used car.
Matthew Cerletty is a nice Mid Western boy born in 1980. The characters in his paintings all seem devoid of emotion, silent in their loneliness. He often paints himself, and in the past, he has painted images of girls with his own face supplanted. His world is a glossy one, filled with neatly groomed, attractive and vacant people, placed in brightly patterned surroundings.
Here is a picture based on his father. Doesn’t he look like a male Orphelia with the reflection of the floral wallpaper in the bathtub?
Here is a self portrait of sorts, which is untitled:
You can’t have summer without a caftan! Perfect as cover-up or just to wear out at night, this look is great for those relaxed times at the beach. I would wear this in Tulum, Mexico, one of my favorite places to visit. Where would you wear it?
Ingredients: note that key limes are sweeter than regular limes and if you can find them, use them!
1 lime, cut crosswise into 5 slices
1 cup ice cubes
1/2 cup premium tequila
1/4 cup triple sec or other orange liqueur
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
Place 3 lime slices in single layer on small plate. Pour enough salt on another small plate to reach depth of 1/4 inch. Lightly press rims of 2 Margarita glasses onto lime slices, twisting to extract juices and coat rims. Dip moistened rims into salt to coat lightly.
Combine ice cubes, tequila, triple sec, and lime juice in cocktail shaker. Shake until outside of shaker becomes frosty. Strain mixture into prepared glasses. Garnish rims with 2 remaining lime slices and serve immediately.
So Stefano Pilati of YSL has introduced a delicious limited edition bag called the Muse two “Military”. Each bag is made from military canvas chosen from the army surplus, so every bag is slightly different. I don’t know how much it costs yet, and still trying to figure out which stores besides the YSL boutiques will carry it. I will update when I know more..This bag is so covetable!
It’s my birthday today! Soulive, (the band my husband is in), is playing at 5pm at the Fort Greene Park, so we will be there celebrating. Next up in my painting and outfit series is Jakub Julian Ziolkowski. He is a very intriguing, and interesting young artist. It is said that while he was attending a prestigious art school in Poland that he failed to show up for awhile, choosing instead to paint in solitude at home. When he finally returned, his teachers were furious but could not deny the quality of the 40 paintings he had made while at home. He was then given special permission to paint where he wanted. He is a loner with a very active imagination. He doesn’t use source materials like photos to come up with his images. Instead he draws from his own brain, coming up with a cast of characters and other world places. You can view more of his work here. There is also a great article about him in the July issue of W magazine, the one with Eva Mendes on the cover. Have a great weekend!
Here is my safari inspired outfit inspired by Julian’s painting:
