Here are some of my favorite things in the stores right now.
ALC watercolor print skirt: I want to sashay through the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens wearing this. It’s rose season, so I imagine looking quite the vision as I view the latest blooms there.
Antik Batik cotton top: Perfect for a summer BBQ, this top screams summer fun.
Pachacuti Panama fedora: forget the stingy brim fedoras, this Panama hat is the ultimate. And if you love to wear “Cancun Cowboy” hats, well then, no comment.
Etro printed silk-twill pants: Gosh I love these pants. These would be my summer evening pants, lounging around with flat sandals and a white tank.
Isabel Marant linen jacket: This is the kind of jacket that works for spring, summer, and fall. Super versatile, this jacket is your friend.
Roberto Cavalli elephant ring: This ring is so charming, it feels like it would bring me good luck.
Marni cami and shorts: Why do I need Marni pajamas? Because, I’m not sure why, but I think I’d feel like Brigitte Bardot when wearing them. And I might be able to get away with watering the garden in them too.

I enjoy seeing the clothing world through your eyes but wonder how much of it would “look right” on the frame of a “big girl” like me. How does one accomplish being fashionable when one is 5′ 0″ and 180 lbs? My most common clothing challenges; sleeves too long or tight, boob area too large, princess cut tops (to hide the chub) that sit at my waist even though they are meant to be right below the breast, gaping armpits by the time I find something to fit my shoulders, stretch clothing that hugs all my backrolls (gross!), pants with long waist\crotch area that make all jeans “mom jeans” on me (soooo not cute), legs that are 6″ too long, thigh areas that look like M. C. Hammer pants by the time I find a comfortable waist size, limited “in style” clothing for bigger girls, irradic sizes withing the clothing industry making it difficult to shop online. If anyone could tastefully dress a short chubby girl, I believe it could be you! Any suggestions?
Hi Beth! It can be no fun to shop when everything you put on is both too big and too small, I mean, give a girl a break!
2 quick suggestions: find a dry cleaner in your area who also provides a tailoring service. It doesn’t cost a lot, and it’s amazing what a professional can do by making your sleeves and hems the correct length. They can also take in those gaping armholes, and bring in the bust seams. Also, Ann Taylor makes really fantastic jeans for petites. The length is usually correct, and the sizes range from a 00 to a 18. That’s a start…You’ve inspired me so I am going to write a whole post for you next week.
You are too kind! Thanks for the tips!
