The next painter I am featuring is Richard Phillips. Richard has a photo realistic style, and often uses magazine images from the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s as inspiration. He does detailed drawings first, then grids out his canvas, and meticulously transfers his smaller drawing square by square before starting his painting.
I have had the pleasure of hanging out with Richard a few times, and even went to his studio for a visit when he was finishing up the painting called “Smiley Face”, which for some reason I can’t find an image on the internet for. He is a lovely guy, great to talk about art with, and is a very talented painter.
Here is my outfit inspired by this painting:
Dress: Emilio Pucci, sunglasses: Balenciaga, clutch: Kara Ross
Shoes: Giuseppe Zanotti, necklace: Versace
If you are a Gossip Girl watcher, you may recognize the painting I am featuring….as part of Lilly Bass’s art collection. Yes Gossip Girl has two replicas of Richard’s work featured in their sets.
This is Chuck Bass’s room, and has a replica of Richard’s “Scout”. (The painting has been cropped however)
The Art Production Fund, who made this art/tv collaboration happen, actually sells the replicas on their site for $250. Not bad considering that I think Richard’s work goes for $200,000 at least.
You can buy them here.
Here are a few more paintings by Richard Phillips.
