Born in Port Arthur, Texas, Janis was a misfit in her teenage years. She joined the local choir and was influenced greatly by listening to Bessie Smith, Leadbelly, Odetta and Big Mama Thornton. She ended up in San Francisco eventually, and made a name for herself playing with a variety of bands, and then went solo. Sadly she struggled with drugs and alcohol throughout her career and died prematurely in 1970. She was 27 years old.

Here is my outfit inspired by this soulful singer, I am crazy about the Diane Von Furstenberg chiffon vest. I love to layer, and this is a perfect piece.
Vest: Diane Von Furstenberg, necklace: Kenneth Jay Lane, cuff Yves Saint Laurent
Ring: Roberto Cavalli, pants: Acne, shoes: J. Crew, top: Proenza Schouler
I love the Roberto Cavalli ring, but I also found this Juicy Couture rose ring and it’s $78
And if you like the Proenza tie dye t-shirt but not the price, then here is a cute version from Vickie’s Secret for only $40. Be sure to check out my post about tie dye.
