My dear friend Annex works at the clothing and accessory showroom on Broadway and Broome called The News. It’s filled with cool brands, all repped by cool chicks very in touch with their downtown side. (And they always have good music playing by their desks). I was in recently checking out the newest spring wares, when I became smitten with the brand R13. Fantastic denim made in Italy, but with little paint splotches, worn in leather jackets with big zippers, striped thin knit sweaters with that raw rock and roll feel? Count me in. I honestly feel like someone is designing my everyday stylist wardrobe. luxury cool basics, with an urban warrior, rocker twist. I have decided to become their poster child. (One of their employees came by the office and I threw myself at her feet, offering to style their look books for trade of clothes, I’m shameless apparently.)
Here are a few of their things for sale right now. Don’t be intimidated by the leather chaps. I bought a pair, and they are backed with something stretchy. They are so comfortable, you feel like you’re wearing sweat pants. Very sexy sweat pants indeed.
and I made an outfit with this great dress they offer. This thing is warm by the way..warm for the winter which is right around the corner.
And these jackets? Beyond luxury. A piece I’d keep forever and get a million compliments on. Gosh the hair and makeup on this model is so bad! Ignore ignore!
And here is a REAL TREAT! The News is having a sample sale right now! So get your butt over there and try on some R13 at like a third of the price! click on it to view bigger.

Keltie Ferris is a Brooklyn based painter born in Louisville, KY in 1977. She starts by using a palette knife to scrape acrylic or oil paint across the surface of her canvas, and then she sprays paint on top. What develops is a matrix of space, and shapes playing visual games with your eyes. Her work feels ethereal and mystical yet filled with city energy to me.
She is apparently inspired by the neo abstract expressionists of the 80′s (I had to look that one up… it means artists like Ida Applebroog, Basquiat, Schnabel etc), but I would rather think of her as a Piet Mondrian of today’s city life.

Here is my outfit inspired by Keltie’s painting. I really want the Jil Sander sweater for myself! Click on the objects for shopping info:
Here is a link to a fantastic 7 minute video of Keltie getting ready for a show: Art21
I tried to embed the video, like I usually do, but for some reason it wasn’t working..click the link instead!

I’ve been spending lots of time in the stores lately and I like what I see! Here are a few of my favorite items available right now. Click on photos for shopping info:
Rag & Bone zig zag sweater. This is a summer sweater, made out of cotton ribbon. It’s perfect for those chilly early mornings and evenings when you need an extra layer. It feels amazing and I adore it.
And this Marc by Marc Jacobs bag looks a bit like a Celine bag, but is way less expensive:
These Rag & Bone cut-out brogues make the perfect “borrowed from the boys” statement:
Do you need red pants? If they are Isabel Marant you do! I would wear these with flats or sneakers for day, and heels and a cami at night. Super versatile, and the color makes them special:
And lastly, a gorgeous link with pave bracelet from the very talented Eddie Borgo. I bet the next move for him is teaming up with a fine jewelry brand to create luxury, tough pieces that we can all drool over…

Time to feature another painter!. I wanted to write this earlier today while at a Seventeen Magazine shoot I was styling, but my day ended up being super busy. I styled 2 teenagers for the magazine who both have large followings on Youtube as makeup and hair experts. These girls create their own videos of themselves putting on makeup or creating a hair style. They edit and add music to the videos and post them for the world to see. Quite impressive! Okay, on to the art:
William Daniels is a British born painter, born in 1976. He cleverly paints from constructed models and still-lifes. He uses found paper and household objects and reconstructs well-known art historical paintings. He then translates every fold and texture into highly realistic paintings. The one I’ve chosen is made from a maquette of silver foil, and is called “Still Life With Relief Chalice, Fruit and Glasses in a Stone Niche II”.

Here is my outfit inspired by this work. I’m pretty nuts about the “gold” sweater by Markus Lupfer:
Sweater: Markus Lupfer, shirt: DKNY, clutch: Reece Hudson, skirt: Moschino Cheap and Chic
Shoes: Christian Louboutin, ring: Low Luv, beanie: Yossi

I am finishing up my fall wish list with a few more important items. Let me know what your big ticket items will be for fall, I’d love to know what you are dreaming about to add to your wardrobe.
Click on photos for shopping info.
Since I love to wear black, I have picked out these YSL platform pumps to add a shock of color to my sometimes colorless wardrobe.
I’m pretty crazy about this Rick Owens alpaca-silk oversized cardigan. It’s soft and very cool looking, just like everything that Rick designs. It’s definitely an investment, but it will be worn for years to come.
It’s nice to have a smaller bag when you don’t need to carry the kitchen sink with you, and this Rebecca Minkoff bag reminds me a little of that covetable Celine bag that is so hot right now.
I took this photo off of the Celine website. Who knows how much this baby costs:

I need this Bottega Veneta scarab ring, it’s so whimsical, and I love bugs (that don’t bite).
I love this 3.1 Phillip Lim cashmere double sleeved sweater. The double sleeves are a nice detail, and there’s nothing like cashmere, right?
Lastly, I have to add these Isabel Marant suede cropped pants. Leather is a big trend for fall, and these pants have that “je ne sais quoi” cool that Isabel Marant always brings to her designs. I know I would wear these every day, like a favorite pair of jeans. I also like the fact that they have some stretch to them.
I hope you enjoyed my foray into fall 2010 clothing, and don’t forget to let me know what you are looking for this fall!

As you may know, I love the Gap. Sometimes the lines could move a little faster there, depending on what store you go to, but I always find a couple of cute, inexpensive things to add to my wardrobe every season. Here are my favorites in the stores right now:
Clockwise from top left: red top, slouchy pants, floral dress, ribbed cardigan
denim cutoffs

I have been obsessed with Uniqlo lately. Uniqlo is an inexpensive clothing store (originally from Japan) filled not only with fun bright t-shirts, but lots of other things as well, including mens and women’s clothing designed by Jil Sander. I have been buying up lots of great dresses for summer, and all of them have been under $40. NOT KIDDING!
Here are a few I like:
Draped tank top dress $39.50

Boat neck dress $19.50

V neck dress $19.50

Front draped sleeveless dress $29.50

And look at these great cardigans!
Draped long sleeved cardigan $19.50

Draped long sleeved cardigan $19.50

They have tons of other great things as well, so check it out! I apologize to the rest of America, but the only store they have in the US is in New York.

Fall clothing and accessories are hitting the stores this week, but I just can’t go there, it’s too hot! So I will be devoting some time to great summer outfits (all with clothing available to buy now and some on sale!), paired with a delicious summer cocktail. Neal and I are in Miami right now, where it is gorgeous and lush and sauna-like. I am looking at a Plumeria tree and it has thousands of fragrant pink flowers pointed gallantly towards the sun.

sandals: Tory Burch, sunglasses: Oliver Peoples, hoodie: Alexander Wang
Tangerine Ginger Caipirinhas from Bon Appetit

- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon grated peeled ginger
- 3/4 cup tangerine juice
- 1 1/2 cup cachaça (Brazilian sugarcane liquor) or vodka
-
Divide tangerines or small oranges among 6 tumblers. Add 2 teaspoons sugar and 1/2 teaspoon grated peeled ginger to each glass. Crush the ingredients in the bottom of the glass with a muddler or handle of a wooden spoon. Enjoy and tell me what you think of the drink!
